Where Modern Metal Meets Traditional Tiles
The design reimagines the home’s ground floor to create a brighter, more connected layout that celebrates light and movement. The hallway has been opened up to frame views through to the garden, while corners that once interrupted the flow, particularly around the kitchen, have been removed to create a freer, more fluid connection between spaces.
A carefully considered infill extension adds a snug with direct garden views, providing a quiet retreat while maintaining the rhythm and character of the existing house. Internally, the kitchen-diner now features a generous central island, while built-in storage in the hallway and dining area keeps the space uncluttered and functional. Double doors link the utility to the main living area, encouraging seamless movement and indoor-outdoor connection.
The rear elevation is fully glazed, with flooring that extends effortlessly from inside to terrace, reinforcing a sense of openness and connection to the garden. At roof level, a new dormer is integrated thoughtfully into the existing roofline, with materials and proportions chosen to complement the home’s character while introducing a subtle, contemporary touch. Additional windows are positioned to balance light and views, helping the home feel bright, spacious, and cohesive.
The overall approach combines respect for the original architecture with a modern interpretation that enhances the everyday experience of family life, bringing together light, flow, and functional elegance.
