Bringing Heritage to Modern Weddings
he project comprises of the internal refurbishment and the external renovation of the existing heritage facade with best practices, to create multi use function space fit for events from weddings and all things ceremonial to gatherings for the community. In addition, a double storey side extension, will provide suitable access to the both floors on the existing building with a new Part K compliant staircase and a new Part M compliant lift service, along with a new lobby area/ reception area for guests. We also propose to convert the existing disused space to the rear, adding a car park to the existing via a ramp that connects the existing vehicular circulation that is prevalent on the site while also seeking to retain existing trees where possible but also improve the biodiversity of the site.
The site itself falls under the Middleton Town Centre Conservation Area Appraisal which mentions 77 Long Street as part of the List of Buildings of Local Importance. 77 Long Street is a detached property and sits along a street of properties with dissimilar character. The front of the property is lined with small businesses that lines the property at pavement level. The proposal does not seek to make any significant additions or changes to the facade of the existing building, however tends to add primarily to the front and rear elevations. The extension aims to create a modern contemporary extension that recognises and takes cues from not only the existing Middleton Conservative Club but also architecture of the larger conservation area, inspired by Edgar Wood, whilst creating better vertical circulation from the two external ground floor levels (car park level in the front and bowling green level at the rear).
