WikiHouse in a Historical Parkland
The Ford Park Community Group manages the much-loved green space of Ford Park in Ulverston, providing recreational facilities, community projects, and events for residents of the town and surrounding area. As the park’s activities grew, the group identified the need for a dedicated community building that could support gatherings, creative programmes, and local events throughout the year.
The challenge was to design a community centre that would not only serve practical needs but also reflect the spirit of the park itself, celebrating nature, reducing environmental impact, and creating a warm and welcoming place for the people of Ulverston.
The proposal envisions a WikiHouse community centre that is joyful, uplifting and deeply connected to its surroundings. Designed as a flexible hub, the building provides a welcoming environment for social gatherings, workshops, celebrations and cultural events.
At its heart, the project focuses on sustainability and wellbeing. The building seeks to enhance its natural setting while minimising its carbon footprint, ensuring that the centre supports both the community and the environment for generations to come.
